About Jen

I’m Jen Cason,

Bible student,

author,

speaker,

and creator

of the

Digging into Scripture Ourselves

Bible Study method.

I AM NOT A BIBLE EXPERT.

By training and trade, I’m a writer and speaker
with more than two decades’ experience
helping professionals translate knowledge into action.

That expertise,
plus my hunger for deep personal understanding of
God’s life-saving Word,
led me to develop
a straightforward, repeatable process
anyone can use to personally
see, understand, and apply biblical wisdom.

It’s my privilege to teach these Bible study techniques
so Christians can
 STUDY GOD’S WORD THEMSELVES.

I
Believe …

… all we need to know about God & life is set forth in His Holy Bible.
It is the complete, divinely inspired, unfailing Word of God,
as well as
the supreme authority & guide for my life & faith.
Through it, I am assured I have been saved by God’s gift of grace.
I received this gift when I acknowledged Jesus as my Lord &
accepted that God raised Him from the dead.
From that moment my life was changed, &
my soul was forever set free from the power of sin & death.
This same grace is available to all people no matter who they are,
what they’ve done or
what they’ve been told by others.
I’d love to help you
see, understand, & start living for yourself
every one of these promises!
We can start right here.

My Story

God’s Word saved my life in June 1996.

I was a thousand miles from “home,”  about to be kicked out of my residence for the second time in less than five years. And I was completely powerless to change that fate.

What else could I do? I cried alone in a room as messy as my life, moments away from the biggest battle of my 33 years. I’d survived abandonment, trauma, molestation, and depression, but I was ill-equipped to fight the dark forces swirling around me. I’d never really read The Book. I didn’t have a “helmet of salvation.” I didn’t know how to wield “the sword of the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:17).

But I did have a loaded revolver. Praise God, I also had His Spirit watching over me.

As dark despair closed in and I reached for the gun to end my misery, a soft, bright light invaded the room.

It enveloped me like a loving parent comforts a frightened child. A gentle voice spoke into my mind:

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me (Psalm 23:4 KJV).

After awhile, the light dissipated, forever taking the dark thoughts away.

Nothing had changed in my physical life, yet everything was different.

Within days, I had a job without applying for it, in a field completely outside my education and professional experience. From it came new life  and a career of more than twenty years in adult learning.

Over time, I realized I’d been saved for something, but I couldn’t imagine what it was. I completed a popular training program for Christian writers and speakers, and took a few steps forward on that path. It didn’t generate the interest I expected, and my enthusiasm waned.

More than a decade passed without direction. Then a co-worker invited me to an inductive Bible study, and I discovered how little I really knew about God’s Word. Eventually the group disbanded. Unable to organize another group study and desperate to connect to God through His Word, I decided to try it on my own.

I read everything I could on Bible-study processes and reverse-engineered some of my favorite studies. Using professional skills gained from careers in law and adult learning, I simplified and standardized the study practices I’d gathered. Then, with the help of a handful of like-minded Christian women, I developed a series of questions we tested for about eighteen months.

Answering those questions grew into the Digging into Scripture Ourselves (DISO) inductive Bible study method I use, speak, and write about today. You can learn all about it here.
